Silence hung in the air for another minute until Bethany spoke again.

“When are you free? Let's go get the divorce certificate.”

"What's the reason for the divorce?" Jonathan asked. He turned to look at her intently. "There's nothing between Maddie and me."

Bethany frowned. That was nothing close to what she was concerned about. "I know. You've said that before."

If the person Jonathan loved was Maddie, many things would not have happened, but Maddie would still have targeted her.

“Have something to eat first." Jonathan sighed, trying to avoid discussing the matter any further.

He knew that Bethany was not calm enough to listen to him and make the right judgment now. Her decision to divorce was hasty, and he pretended that he didn't hear her.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Francine's ward was guarded by two bodyguards.

They guarded the door so she wouldn't try to run out or kill herself.

Maggie secretly paid Francine a visit at the hospital after she confirmed that Jonathan was not in the hospital.

“Francine, why did you hurt yourself?" She hugged Francine as soon as she saw her. "I don't really care if Jonathan gets married to me or not. Please don't push it anymore. I don't want you to hurt yourself again. I know you love me very much and I don't want to lose you."

Maddie's words were thoughtful and Francine was moved, but she was more displeased with Bethany.

"I promised you that you would be my daughter-in-law, and I will make that happen. Jonathan is ignorant of you and your contributions to the Bates family.”

“Please, he shouldn't know about it! Don't disclose this to him. I don't want him to feel that he must marry me to repay the favor."

Maddie lowered her eyes dejectedly. “As you can see, Bethany already won his heart. I should just back off."

“Never! Maddie, Bethany's presence in his life means nothing. She's not a threat." Francine snorted icily.

"But Jonathan seems to really love her." Maddie began to tear up, and she bit her lower lip. “Bethany is really pitiable. "Calm down, please. Let's look on the bright side; at least the company this matter was settled."

“Have you given this matter deeper thoughts? Why would Bethany dare to do such a thing? Where did she get the confidence from? She assumed that with Jonathan by her side, she could do whatever she wanted. Tell me, how would a company thrive with such an employee?"

Maddie pretended to be surprised to hear that. Then she said sadly, “She probably had no choice since her mother was terribly sick and close to the point of death."

"Yes! That's nemesis catching up with her. Maddie, not everyone has a good heart like you. Some people are just heartless!" Francine was persistent on being Maddie her daughter-in-law. "You must support me, We must get rid of Bethany, at least for the sake of Bates Group."
