Chapter: 234
The events of the day had turned Bethany's world completely upside down.
On impulse, she dialed Jonathan's number.
She didn't even know what to say; she simply felt a sudden urge to hear his voice.
After a few rings, Jonathan answered, his voice sounding unusually weary.
Though he was no stranger to late nights, this level of exhaustion was new.
“What's wrong?" he inquired.
"I..." Bethany paused, unsure of what to express. "I just wanted to check in on you."
“I'm at the hospital."
Before Bethany could reply, Maddie's voice filtered through the call.
“What's wrong with Francine this time? Jonathan, you're pushing her too hard. She's your mother!"
Before Bethany could fully process Maddie's words, Jonathan's voice came.
"My mother is awake. I need to handle this; I'll call you back later."
"Okay."
As the call ended and the screen went dark, Bethany felt a turmoil inside her like never before.
In truth, she wished Nikolas had never come to her with his advice, because she had already resolved to divorce Jonathan and end their relationship.
But after hearing Nikolas, she found herself unable to broach the topic of divorce with Jonathan.
He had taken care of her so attentively that even amidst strong opposition from his mother, he remained steadfast in his support for her. In contrast, Bethany found herself frequently contemplating separation.
As Jonathan had pointed out, whenever she faced challenges, her instinct was to retreat completely and sever ties with him.
She lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, replaying every moment spent with Jonathan in her mind.
His gentleness, his thoughtfulness, and his obvious affection for her...
Why hadn't she noticed it before?
Bethany pulled the quilt over her face and sobbed. Suddenly, the door swung open.
It was Aimee.
Noticing the shoes in the hallway, she hurried to Bethany's room.
