Chapter: 253
Bethany hesitated. "You could have texted me. I would have come down sooner."
"It wasn't urgent. I didn't want to interrupt your time with your mother or give her the impression that I was stealing you away from her," Jonathan explained.
Jonathan was used to waiting for Bethany.
He had been doing so for many years, so a little more time didn't bother him now.
Under the soft glow of the setting sun, Bethany looked up at him.
Despite the years, he hadn't changed much. On closer inspection, he still had the youthful look of a teenager.
“Try to smile more. Don't always look so serious," she suggested.
"Okay." Jonathan nodded. He waited to get in the car until after Bethany had settled herself.
Today, he didn't bring his assistant along. On their drive home, Bethany felt like they were just any regular couple-leaving work, heading home together, cooking dinner, and cuddling up to sleep.
But Jonathan was no ordinary man.
Bethany thought about asking something regarding his mother, but she chose to hold back.
The calmness of the moment was too precious, and she didn't want to disrupt it.
Upon arriving at East Shade Bay, Jonathan changed his shoes and headed to the kitchen, with Bethany following closely behind.
"I'll cook the dinner tonight. Have a rest."
Even though he always claimed he wasn't tired, the fatigue was evident on his face. Bethany was aware of the daily pressures he faced at Bates Group. Despite his hectic schedule, he made time to be with her.
"I would rather stay here with you a bit longer." Jonathan didn't leave but continued preparing the vegetables.
Bethany smiled and joined in to help. She cherished these moments together.
But soon, the doorbell rang.
Jonathan paused, looking instinctively at Bethany. She asked, “Should I hide? Is it someone from your family?"
“No, there's no need for you to hide."
"But..."
“Bethany, this is our home."
His words gave Bethany confidence.
She nodded. “Okay, we'll open the door together."
