Chapter: 262
“Humph, smooth talker."

“If that's what you believe, then so be it!" Jayson glanced at his watch. "Since she's on the way, it's time for me to leave! Please don't mention that I was here."

Receiving a nod, he tidied up and left the hospital.

As he descended the stairs, he suddenly spotted Bethany stepping out of a nearby black car.

Jonathan had personally driven her.

The two conversed briefly before Bethany waved and entered the hospital.

Jayson intended to look away and leave, but he unexpectedly Locked eyes with Jonathan.

He thought Jonathan might approach to confront or warn him, but instead, Jonathan merely paused, his gaze indifferent, before returning to the car without a word.

Even from a distance, Jayson felt an intangible sense of authority emanating from Jonathan.

No wonder he could be the CEO of Bates Group. That effortless aura was beyond imitation by ordinary people.

Jayson felt an oppressive weight pressing on his chest, as though the world had conspired to overshadow him perpetually.

Despite his current circumstances being considered exceptional by many, Jayson couldn't shake the feeling of suffocation that seemed to follow him everywhere.

Meanwhile, Bethany pushed open the door to her mother's ward.

Her mother, usually solemn and withdrawn, greeted her with an unexpected warmth today.

"Mom, do you have some good news?" Bethany asked, setting a small bag of candied chestnuts on the bedside table.

"Can't I just be in a good mood?"

"Of course you can." Bethany took a seat beside the bed, starting to peel the chestnuts for her mother.

Amid the quiet crackling of the shells, Marie broke the silence with a more serious question.

“Has Jonathan's mother been causing you any trouble lately?"

Bethany's hands paused mid-peel, a flicker of discomfort crossing her face before she shook her head. “No, Mom. Everything's been fine.”

“His parents must be thinking he is just having some fun with you, so they don't mind."

“Mom, can you stop thinking like that?" Bethany frowned.

Marie chuckled as she savored the sweetness of the peeled chestnuts.

"You may not heed my advice now, but one day you'll understand. I hope you won't regret it. My mother told me the same, and I didn't listen. Now, I've resigned myself to let you learn the hard way if that's what you want."
