Chapter: 27
Overhearing the commotion, Aimee rushed over, documents in tow, and stood in front of Bethany protectively. "Mr. Smith, Bethany's mother had a heart attack, so she's been preoccupied. Can't you overlook this one mistake?"

“One mistake? When the higher-ups come looking for someone to blame, who do you think they'll go for? Me!" Carson pounded the table angrily. "Bethany, don't take this personally, but you're the one who begged me for the Zucron Company project. If you can't even get it off the ground, I'll fire you!"

Feathers ruffled, Aimee was gearing up to fight back when Bethany suddenly reached out and stopped her. She stood up and bowed deeply to Carson.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Smith, but I won't give up on the Zucron Company project just yet."

"Then you'd better come up with a solution for this!" Carson snapped, slamming the door as he left.

Aimee gritted her teeth, steam practically exiting her ears as she huffed and puffed. She looked even angrier than Carson. “Bethany, don't let him scare you. If you quit, I'll go with you!"

“I'm fine," Bethany said, taking a deep breath. She sat down at her desk and got back to work. “The Zucron Company project has to succeed."

She was determined to reclaim her pride.

“Okay, let me help you."

But before Aimee could finish speaking, the company's internal phone rang.

Bethany answered the phone politely. “Hello, Bethany Holt speaking.”

"Miss Holt, Mr. Bates wants you to see him in his office." It was Jonathan's assistant calling.

Jonathan was back from his business trip already?

Expressionless, Bethany tidied up her clothes and headed for the CEO's office, her high heels clicking against the tiled floors.

She knew Jonathan wasn't obligated to help her at work, so she had no right to blame him.

Before entering, she knocked on the door. Unexpectedly, it was a woman's voice that called out, "Come in!"

Bethany pushed the door open and walked in, but Jonathan was nowhere to be seen. Instead, there was a woman holding a glass of red wine.

Bethany stopped in her tracks.

The woman was stunningly beautiful, radiating confidence from within.

She wore a lilac dress that accentuated her graceful figure, every movement exuding the same noble aura as Jonathan's.

But what really struck Bethany was the striking resemblance the woman bore to herself.

"And you are...?" The woman seemed equally surprised when she saw Bethany's face clearly.

“I'm Bethany Holt from the investment department. Mr. Bates summoned me to his office just now." As she spoke, Bethany averted her gaze timidly.

“I see." Regaining her composure, Maddie pointed to the door to the lounge. “Jonathan's just changing his clothes. You can wait here."
