Chapter: 277
She worried that an urgent call from the office might disrupt her plans.
“Go ahead, it's fine." Brody lifted an eyebrow, concern edging his voice. “Are you feeling unwell?"
"No, it's just a routine check-up."
“Ah, okay! You must be under quite a bit of stress with everything going on at work. Regular check-ups are a wise practice. I should probably schedule one for myself." Brody offered a reassuring smile and exited with the documents in hand.
Relieved by his assurance, Bethany felt safe to set the exact time for her check-up.
Lately, she had been bracing for her period, but it hadn't arrived, leading her to a startling suspicion. Could she be pregnant?
In the senior ward of the hospital, Francine had been silent for three days, weighed down by depression.
The situation had deteriorated beyond the doctor's expectations.
Godfrey had assigned people to monitor her constantly. They meticulously checked everything in the room, ensuring no sharp objects were present.
A knock sounded at the door.
"Enter," Godfrey called out, and the door swung open.
It was Maddie.
"Godfrey."
"Yes?" Godfrey gave her a brief glance before his eyes returned to his wife.
Maddie set down the fruit she had brought and asked with concern, “Has Francine spoken yet?"
"No. She's been rushed to intensive care several times, and now, she's in a worse state than ever."
Maddie was taken aback.
Godfrey suddenly lifted his head and asked, "Did you speak to that woman?"
Maddie nodded. "I urged her to leave Jonathan, but she refused. Then I explained the situation to her. I even pleaded with her to let me pretend to be with Jonathan, to avoid complications for him, but she wouldn't agree."
"So she's the one who refused the suggestion?"
"I suppose so. After all, Jonathan's mother is the one being seriously ill, not hers. She doesn't feel bothered at all."
Godfrey's eyes narrowed, a hint of menace flickering in them. “Well, she can't blame me for being harsh then."
Maddie inquired, “What are you planning to do? I think it's best not to act rashly. Jonathan is quite fond of her. If you harm her, I fear it could damage your relationship.”
"Do I look like I should fear a mere girl?" Godfrey's anger was palpable as he clenched his fists. "I've already given in as much as I can. I sent you to warn her, yet she completely disregarded it. Do you think I can allow such a woman to stay be Jonathan's side? She would be the ruin of us!"
