Chapter: 278
“But...”

"Alright. As Jonathan's father, I've been patient enough!" Godfrey paused and frowned. "This needs to be dealt with swiftly, before it gets more complicated-if Bethany gets pregnant, for instance."

Saturday dawned soon.

Bethany had already informed Brody she'd be off today, allowing her the rare luxury of sleeping in without a hint of concern.

Groggily, she opened her eyes and instinctively reached for her phone to check the time-only to remember, with a small sigh of relief, that she didn't have to work today. It was already eight in the morning. She would have been late if it were a workday.

After a leisurely stretch, Bethany rose to wash up. Padding into the dining room in her slippers, she stopped dead in her tracks, astonished.

"Why are you still here?" she blurted out.

At this time, Jonathan should have been well on his way to the office.

“Come, have some breakfast first," Jonathan suggested, handing her a glass of milk with a slight curve to his lips. "You mentioned you were headed for a hospital check-up today. I'm not comfortable letting you go alone."

"But"

Jonathan cut her off. "I know, you're worried your mom will find out I came. Don't worry. I'll stay outside. Just let me know when you're finished."

Frowning, Bethany sat down heavily, fixing him with a serious Look.

“Jonathan, it's just a routine check-up. There's nothing wrong with me. You have a mountain of work waiting at the office. You shouldn't put it off for me." The thought of the company suffering losses because of her filled her with dread. She couldn't bear to feel responsible for that.

Unfazed, Jonathan reassured her, "Brody can handle things at the office."

“Back when I was at Ensson Corporation, you could've tricked me. But now, at the headquarters, I see exactly how much work you've got."

Bethany then approached him, tugging at his arm with a playful grin.

"I'll let you know the results the minute I get them, okay?"

Jonathan didn't respond, prompting Bethany to play her ace.

“If you don't agree, then I'm skipping the check-up and tagging along to work with you."

Jonathan exhaled heavily. “Bethany, it's your health that worries me."

“I'm totally fine, really!"

The two exchanged a silent, tense look until Jonathan finally relented.

"Fine, just keep me updated on the results."

Bethany flashed an “okay” sign with her fingers.
