Chapter: 279
Eventually, Jonathan drove her to the hospital and watched her enter before he pulled away.
Bethany reached the check-up department on time, collected her documents, and lined up.
A nurse appeared soon after, announcing, "Please remain silent in the examination room and switch your phones to silent mode."
Observing those ahead of her muting their devices, Bethany quickly texted her mother to say she'd visit in about an hour, then silenced her phone and stashed it in her purse.
“Bethany Holt, please head to Room 3."
When her name was called, she quickly made her way to the room.
The doctor, appearing quite seasoned, briefly reviewed the information Bethany had provided before asking, "Married?"
"Yes," Bethany responded.
"Are you certain you aren't pregnant?”
Bethany paused, prompting the doctor to explain, "We can't perform some tests if you're pregnant."
"Well, I shouldn't be. My husband and I take precautions."
Her cheeks reddened, revealing her discomfort with such personal discussions.
Without raising his eyes, the doctor handed her a pregnancy test along with a form for a blood test. "Since you're unsure, let's start with these. It's crucial we confirm you're not pregnant first."
"Okay." Bethany wanted to mention she was in a rush, but she complied with the doctor's instructions instead.
After settling the bill for the blood test at the front desk, she headed to the restroom with the pregnancy test in hand, taking a deep breath.
A wave of unexplained nerves washed over her.
While waiting, Bethany dialed her mother's number.
She had not received a reply to her earlier message.
This call, too, went unanswered.
Bethany felt a twinge of anxiety but wasn't too concerned. It was the weekend, after all-the day her mother usually spent in rehabilitation, often away from her phone. She decided to wrap up her check-up quickly and drop by her mother's ward.
“Bethany Holt, please head to Room 3."
Hearing this, she hastily stowed her phone and made her way to the designated room.
The familiar doctor was there, poring over her urine and blood test results with a slight frown.
"It's fortunate you did the test. You're pregnant."
