Chapter: 284
He was worried that Bethany might do something rashly, so he Looked for her everywhere.
Feeling the cold touch of Bethany's skin, Jayson's heart sank. “Are you here by yourself?"
He wondered why Jonathan wasn't here.
The sight of Bethany's distress was enough to make Jayson to realize the situation.
Though he didn't fully grasp what had happened, he resolved to stay by her side, regardless of how much she might resist.
“My mom was murdered," Bethany revealed, not addressing his question.
"She must have been killed."
"Do you know something?" Jayson pressed, urgency in his tone. "Tell me, I'll help you investigate. Don't worry, if someone killed your mother, I'll make sure they don't escape justice!"
Bethany slowly lifted her gaze to meet his.
Then, with a heavy sigh, she dropped her shoulders.
"What if the Bates family is involved? Can we even expose the truth?"
The thought of confronting Jonathan's parents filled her with dread.
What if they uncovered the truth? Could they really confront the power of the Bates family? Her mother's last words seemed to resonate more deeply with each passing moment. The disparity between their families was vast enough for the Bates family to easily erase her existence without anyone noticing. What resources did she have to defend herself?
Could she depend on Jonathan? That idea was laughable. After all, they were his parents!
What about her relationship with Jonathan? And the baby she was carrying?
The sheer weight of her predicament left Bethany frozen, her mind unable to process anything. This was undoubtedly the most daunting challenge she had ever faced.
“The Bates family? Bates Group?" Jayson's eyes widened in shock. “But you and Jonathan-"
"His family doesn't approve."
“I'm going to confront them right now! Don't worry, Bethany. With me here, there's nothing to fear."
Jayson made to leave, but Bethany caught his sleeve.
He turned, looking at her, who shook his head with a pale face.
“Don't go."
“But-"
"I'm just speculating. I don't have any proof."
