Chapter: 309
But Jonathan didn't retaliate or speak harshly. He was rendered speechless.
They gazed at each other in silence as time slipped away.
“You've chosen Jayson." Jonathan finally spoke.
“Yes." Bethany nodded, seeing something break in his gaze, which shattered completely.
He withdrew silently, giving her space to dress. “Our marriage was contractual. There are clauses for breaches."
"I know," Bethany replied, fastening her buttons. "I'll find a way to repay you."
"No need. Just one last promise, and the contract will be null. We'll be even."
Bethany was taken aback. "What is it?"
“Marrying you was a meticulously planned move on my part. I feared arousing your suspicion and feared my parents would intervene, so I didn't plan a wedding," Jonathan explained.
Bethany was at a loss for words.
"I've spoken with a wedding planner. Let's choose a date. We'll have the ceremony in the morning and finalize our divorce in the afternoon,"
Jonathan proposed.
Bethany clenched her fists, holding back tears. "No, I don't want any ceremony."
“This is my condition. Bethany, can you honor the terms?"
She remained silent, her gaze fixed on his back.
After a long moment, she finally murmured, “Okay.”
"Take a break. I'll give you some space," Jonathan said gently, stepping back. He reached for the shirt draped over the sofa to put it on.
"It's me who should go. This is your place," Bethany replied, her fingernails pressing into her skin to keep her composure. "I'll stay at Aimee's apartment for now. I'll wrap up things at the company before I resign. Call me once the wedding arrangements are finalized."
"Bethany, remember, I'm a stickler for cleanliness."
"I'm aware. What about it?"
“We're not divorced yet. This is still your home as my wife. Are you planning to go to Aimee's place to be with Jayson while we're still married?"
Bethany blinked, clearly caught off guard.
It was evident he cared deeply about this. The thought crossed his mind when she mentioned moving into Aimee's apartment.
Jonathan took a deep breath, his voice hoarse as he announced, “I'll be away on a business trip for a few days. You'll stay here."
