Chapter: 323
He hadn't given up yet. He was convinced that something must have happened that day, causing Bethany to had a sudden change of heart.
It was simply too strange and too sudden.
As Jonathan glanced at the document in his hand, his handsome face grew increasingly colder. “Did Jayson's people take Bethany's mother away?"
"Yes, our people confirmed it. They also showed me surveillance footage of Bethany's mother in the garden of the hospital with Jayson. The two of them seemed very happy. It looks like Bethany's mother is quite pleased with Jayson."
Suddenly, Jonathan crumpled the paper into a ball. "So she didn't lie to me."
“It appears so." Although Brody wished to discover something that would make his boss smile again, he didn't dare to sugarcoat or hide the results of the investigation. He could only tell Jonathan the truth.
"Why didn't she Lie to me?" Jonathan wondered aloud, frowning.
"Mr. Bates, I don't think Bethany is such a person." In truth, Brody found the situation peculiar as well.
It was evident from Bethany and Jonathan's interactions that they had feelings for each other.
Though Bethany was slow to catch on and only realized that Jonathan had feelings for her after he did so much, they had been sweet to each other.
How did everything change so drastically overnight?
“Maybe she's genuinely exhausted," Jonathan murmured.
"Mr. Bates, how about I talk to Bethany?" Brody had always found Bethany easy to get along with and had done his best to support her career, so he was sure that she would at least be willing to talk to him.
"It's her decision. I just want to make sure that she wasn't coerced into anything. If it turns out that she made this choice out of her own will, then I won't stand in her way."
No matter how upset Jonathan was, he didn't want Bethany to be in an unpleasant situation.
In the end, Brody could only sigh.
He had believed that Bethany and Jonathan would become an enviable couple, and have the kind of love that would last forever.
As night fell, Bethany took a taxi back to East Shade Bay.
She had been staying at Aimee's place recently, but hadn't collected her clothes and belongings yet. Since she was going to get a divorce after tomorrow's wedding, she needed to retrieve all her things from Jonathan's.
Bethany came at this specific time of the night, assuming Jonathan would still be busy at the company.
She thought it would be less painful if she could move out without running into him.
She had declined Aimee's offer to accompany her and returned by herself.
After entering the passcode at the door, Bethany walked inside the house.
Noticing that Jonathan's shoes were absent from the hallway, she breathed a sigh of relief.
