Chapter: 325
“Okay," Bethany murmured softly, stepping inside.

She half-expected Jonathan to leave. His recent demeanor had even led her to contemplate calling off tomorrow's wedding, maybe even accompanying him to file for a divorce instead.

Yet, when she finished packing and returned to the hallway, Jonathan was still there, as if rooted to the spot.

“Why are you still here?" she asked, her voice tinged with surprise.

"He didn't come to get you, and taxis are scarce around here. I'll take you," he offered, his tone considerate though lacking its usual warmth and gentleness.

In that moment, Bethany felt a pang of empathy for Maddie, understanding how she must feel around Jonathan.

It all made sense now.

His upbringing had instilled in him a chivalrous respect for women, nothing more than superficial politeness.

Realizing she was no longer special to him, she took several deep breaths, her eyelashes fluttering as she looked down. “Jonathan, how about—"

"The wedding planner is scheduled to pick you up at six in the morning."

Bethany blinked in shock.

Just now, she was about to suggest they call off the wedding tomorrow.

"Actually, I think..." she started.

"You've changed your mind about the divorce?" Jonathan's voice cut through, his eyes locking onto hers, though she couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze. Instead, she watched his Adam's apple move with each word.

"I do," Bethany whispered, her voice barely audible.

"Then do as I say," Jonathan commanded, his tone final.

Silence fell between them, heavy and unbroken.

Jonathan then assisted her with loading her packed belongings into the car's trunk. Before pulling away, Bethany cast one last look at the house in East Shade Bay.

It was a place once filled with their laughter and love. She resolved it would be her last visit.

After settling into the car, Bethany quickly sent a text to Jayson.

Consequently, when Jonathan pulled up outside Aimee's place, Jayson was already there waiting.

The encounter between the two men was less hostile than their previous one, though still far from friendly.

“Thank you, Mr. Bates, for bringing Bethany here," Jayson greeted him politely.

Jayson instinctively reached for Bethany's Luggage in Jonathan's grip.
