Chapter: 335
"I'm here to check the site. The project has already faced significant delays. Mr. Bates is thinking of pulling out."
It was Brody, speaking while making his way towards her car.
Bethany felt her heart skip a beat. All the blood rushed to her head, and her entire body froze.
Whenever Brody showed up, Jonathan was usually not far behind.
Cold sweat broke out over her forehead, and she even forgot to end the video call with Nola.
“Mommy !"
Nola's voice pierced through Bethany's thoughts.
Bethany closed the video call and rolled up the car window.
Brody walked past, deep in conversation on his phone, and Bethany's heart raced like it might burst from her chest.
She knew she should drive off immediately, yet her eyes couldn't help but follow Brody.
What was she hoping to see?
Jonathan?
As this thought crossed her mind, Bethany came back to her senses.
She looked away and ignited the car engine, eyes falling to the dashboard.
Some shattered dreams were better left untouched.
Driving back to the company from the construction site, Bethany pulled into the parking lot. There, she noticed Colt, his face tight with worry as he paced and talked on the phone.
Formally, Colt wasn't above her. At Goldwald Company, her role as project director carried nearly as much weight as his as general manager. This expansive development project required seasoned leadership. Colt, chosen by the board for his expertise, took the lead, which Bethany accepted without question.
In the end, the project's success meant success for all. As a younger colleague, she understood her place.
Colt noticed her and waved, then wrapped up his call and walked over.
"I dug into it, and just like you suspected, a female designer snuck behind our backs and contacted that stubborn family, asking for a million in return," Colt said, furious. "Do you have any idea how much trouble this caused? We nearly lost our investor!"
Bethany grinned. “At least we caught it early enough to minimize the damage."
“But what about the family? Any luck negotiating with them?" With the design plans leaked, convincing that family wouldn't be easy.
"Not yet, but we're getting there." Bethany paused, then continued, “Bring in the employee who leaked the plans. She's earned the family's trust, so let's use that to our advantage."
Colt raised an eyebrow. "Use her? She should be fired right away!"
