Chapter: 413
Why did simple interactions with the driver bring him to mind? Her thoughts had been preoccupied with him lately.
She wondered if Nikolas had disclosed anything to Jonathan that he shouldn't have, and how Jonathan might have reacted.
A fleeting shadow of sadness crossed her eyes, but she quickly concealed it. She then focused on the project details before her, marking important points.
This was not the moment to get lost in past concerns. She had work to complete, and the decisions made four years ago were set; dwelling on them now was pointless.
As she worked, Bethany arranged her flight to Brokdon and instructed her two assistants to meet her there, saving them a journey to Westsilver.
Before departing the country, Bethany was determined to complete all her tasks.
She had to see everything through to completion.
She worked tirelessly, and when she finally lifted her head, it was 2 a.m.
Her neck was sore, prompting her to take a break.
She instinctively checked her phone and saw a new message from the driver. To ensure she wouldn't lose his contact, she had saved it under "Westsilver Driver."
"Heading to Brokdon for work?"
Bethany thought it strange he would ask but responded regardless.
"Yes, I'm off to Brokdon on a business trip."
After sending the message, she realized it was the middle of the night-likely he was already asleep. People his age typically didn't stay up so late.
Stretching her arms and legs, Bethany went back to her computer, only to find that the driver had already replied to her message.
Checking the time again, it was now 2:30 a.m.
“Okay. Safe travels."
A wry smile crossed her face, touched by the unexpected kindness from this virtual stranger.
Despite their rocky start, the driver had shown himself to be decent.
It was refreshing to feel such genuine warmth from someone she barely knew.
"Thank you! I'll let you know when I return."
Bethany set her phone down with a sigh.
It was too late to continue working. With upcoming meetings, the need to review contracts, and the arrival of the investment company's lawyer the following day, she had to be well-rested. She couldn't afford to appear tired and unprofessional.
She didn't want to make a poor first impression.
