Chapter: 421
"Is there anything else? I need to return to the office with some documents for Mr. Bates."

Faced with the mention of work, Maddie knew she couldn't keep him any longer without causing a delay, which would be serious.

Maddie's lips twitched slightly. "Fine, Brody, you've got nerve."

“Thanks for the compliment."

The elevator reached its destination and the doors opened. Brody stepped out smoothly, not looking back.

For now, the company remained under Jonathan's control, not Maddie's.

Brody mused that if the company ever did pass to her, he could simply resign and find another job.

Having served as the CEO's secretary for years, his experience at Bates Group made him highly marketable. Other companies would undoubtedly value his skills. Why worry about job security?

What a joke!

Back in Westsilver, Bethany was wrapping up her tasks.

Unsure of how long her assignment in Brokdon would take, she had worked several nights in preparation. Ryan had cautioned that the counterpart was shrewd and could pose significant challenges if not thoroughly checked, potentially risking the entire company.

The night before her business trip, Bethany video-called Nola and then transferred some money to Aimee.

She felt indebted to Aimee for taking care of her child and refused to let her use her own funds for that.

“We're best friends; must you be so formal?" Aimee complained.

"You know how I operate. Please, don't make this difficult.”

"Alright!" Aimee sighed but accepted the transfer. “Just be cautious in Brokdon and steer clear of trouble! Always have an exit strategy before jumping in. Work is crucial, but your health and safety are paramount!"

Bethany chuckled. She realized that Aimee was acting like a bird spooked by the smallest noise, overly concerned about her landing back in the hospital.

"Don't worry! Those who harmed me have faced consequences."

"My cousin wanted to fly back from overseas to sort them out for you!"

"No!" Bethany said quickly. "Please, don't bother him with my problems; he's already done more than enough."

Aimee huffed, "You always refuse to bother us; sometimes I question if you really see me as family. Shouldn't family members assist each other?"

“I do see you as family, Aimee," Bethany replied earnestly. She would never consider Andrew her family. And she definitely didn't want to consider herself an orphan.

"That's comforting. Try to get some sleep. Your flight's at noon tomorrow, right?" Aimee asked.

"Yes, 12 PM. Good night, and try to get to bed early too.”
