Chapter: 43
"I've asked someone to bring your clothes here." Wearing a bathrobe, Jonathan emerged from the bathroom, his hair still dripping wet.

"Also, I'm giving you the day off to move out of your rental. Transfer your things here by the end of the day.”

“Wait a second. You want me to move in?" Bethany sat bolt upright and pointed at herself in disbelief.

"Got a problem with that?" Jonathan asked casually.

Of course she had a problem with this arrangement!

Moving into his home meant facing himan eternally moody, gloomy iceberg-every single day. The thought alone was enough to make her feel miserable.

Besides, Maddie would eventually discover their so-called "relationship."

And if Maddie and Jonathan reconciled, where would that leave her—the perpetual third wheel?

"Mr. Bates, I think it'd be better for both of us if I didn't move in. After all, our marriage is just a contract. But don't worry; if you need me, just call, and I'll come right away."

“Bethany, do you seriously think that this is just a business transaction?" Jonathan's patience was wearing thin, his frown deepening. "I said, move in."

His tone was domineering, leaving no room for negotiation.

Bethany sighed in defeat. “Okay, Mr. Bates. Whatever you say."

After breakfast, Jonathan had to leave for work, whereas Bethany went back to her rental to pack her things.

At noon, her phone rang. It was Aimee calling.

"Why didn't you come to work today?" she asked, her voice tinged with confusion rather than concern. "Carson said your leave wasn't approved by him, but by the head office! Bethany, I'm starting to think you're getting a big promotion."

“The training program is starting soon, so I took the day off to prepare some things in advance," Bethany replied.

“Why's your voice so hoarse? It sounds like you spent the night with a man!" Aimee teased jokingly.

But Bethany didn't laugh. On the contrary. her heart leaped to her throat and she blurted out, "Bullshit!"

Aimee giggled Like a schoolgirl. “By the way, remember the woman I mentioned before, Mr. Bates' beloved? The company's chief lawyer, Maddie?"

"Yes, I remember."

"Well, guess what? She's back from abroad! And she and Mr. Bates showed up to work together this morning. They seem to be very close. Everyone in the office won't stop talking about it!" Maddie exclaimed excitedly. "Bethany, I caught a glimpse of her this morning. She looks a little like you!"

For some inexplicable reason, this was the last thing Bethany wanted to hear. Her mood soured even further.

"Oh, please. She's a rich and successful woman. We couldn't be more different."

“But you're also gorgeous! The marketing director has fallen head over heels for you."
