Chapter: 502
Seeing his hesitation, Maddie didn't press for an immediate answer.
A soft chuckle escaped her lips as she gazed out the car window.
The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror, clearly catching her conversation.
Maddie raised an eyebrow, her smile tinged with a chilling edge.
"Don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong. You'll be on your own if things go south."
"Ms. Hinchcliffe, I didn't hear a peep. Mrs. Bates insisted I follow your lead."
Maddie gave his shoulder a reassuring pat. “Good, that's the way to go."
Jonathan drove straight to the hospital where Bethany had once been treated. En route, he personally directed Brody to track down the child.
Now that the child had turned up, Jonathan had to find whoever took him and why.
Although Nikolas suggested the boy might have been reclaimed by his family, there was still a possibility that he was kidnapped.
With his striking resemblance to Jonathan, the boy was sure to attract attention, possibly from dangerous people.
“Brody, put everything else on hold and focus solely on finding him!"
“I get it, Mr. Bates.”
Jonathan believed Brody was the only person who could handle the task effectively.
When Brody heard Jonathan out and was on the verge of ending the call, Jonathan suddenly spoke once more.
"You should investigate Maddie."
“Maddie? Nikolas mentioned he was with Maddie when the boy disappeared."
"She may not have been there, but that doesn't rule out her instructing others to take the boy."
Just now, as Nikolas explained what had happened, Jonathan found Maddie's involvement very strange.
Firstly, why had she moved to such a remote area?
They had known each other for so many years, and Jonathan was aware that Maddie did not suffer from heart issues. Yet, at a crucial moment, she reportedly had a heart attack, was rushed to the hospital, and then found to be perfectly healthy.
This raised Jonathan's suspicions.
“Understood, Mr. Bates. I'll track her recent activities."
“Make sure she doesn't notice. I'm concerned she might harm the child."
