Chapter: 520
“I can't believe you didn't recognize my voice."

His tone was always so confident and precise.

It wasn't posed as a question or even a joke but as a matter-of-fact statement.

Bethany didn't know what to say.

Around Jonathan, she felt as though all her secrets could be seen.

Not waiting long for her response and noting her silence, Jonathan said, "I want to meet with you."

"I have nothing to say to you, so let's not meet."

"I went to the hospital and checked your medical records."

Bethany froze for a moment, her heart skipping a beat.

She knew Jonathan's visit to the hospital was likely prompted by the complications Nikolas had caused during their encounter.

Her excuse then had been weak—-indeed, very fragile. It was a hurried fabrication, and she couldn't come up with anything better at that moment.

Had it not been for Rowan's unexpected arrival, Bethany might have deceived Nikolas. Now that Jonathan had uncovered it, Nikolas must have sensed something was amiss.

“and?" Bethany managed to keep her voice steady, showing no emotion.

But in truth, she had to place her hand on her chest to calm herself down.

It felt as though she had been repeatedly punched, leaving her breathless.

“And your records were deleted," Jonathan added.

A sense of relief washed over Bethany.

It appeared Maddie had done a thorough job, even taking care of this.

"Your parents wanted me completely out of your life, so deleting my records makes sense. What are you really getting at?"

“A child." Jonathan was direct. "Did you give birth to a boy?"

Bethany's heart, which had just calmed, tightened once more.

“I don't know what you're referring to."

"A young boy who looks a lot like me showed up at Bates Group, claiming to be my son."

“Oh? Congratulations, Mr. Bates, on becoming a father." Bethany chuckled. "But there was no need to inform me. We made our boundaries clear with the divorce."
