Chapter: 541
"Thanks," Bethany murmured, accepting the milk and massaging her forehead. "I haven't gotten this drunk in a long time."
Jayson offered a reassuring smile. "Feeling any better?"
Bethany's expression briefly stiffened, her smile strained. “Yeah, I've made peace with it."
“That's good to hear," Jayson responded, though he sensed she wasn't being truthful.
Bethany took a sip of her milk, then abruptly recalled something and set the glass down. "By the way, Jayson, did you manage to contact B7 for me? I need to find out the cost to retrieve the footage. I've put some money aside, but I need to know if it'll cover it."
"I've been trying to reach B7, but this guy is like a ghost. No one knows his whereabouts or even what he looks like. All I can do is reach out to people who've dealt with him before and hope for a response," Jayson explained.
Bethany nodded, appreciating Jayson's efforts and feeling no need to press him further.
“For now, I have to rely on him," she responded.
Jayson paused briefly before suggesting, "Since Rowan seems to have a knack for computers and the internet after this incident, should we let him give it a shot?"
Bethany looked at him and shook her head firmly. "No. It's not just about whether Rowan has the skills; even if he does, I don't want him exposed to that scene.”
Rowan was sensitive, unlike Nola, who was more innocent and naive. If Rowan were to stumble upon the footage, he would be the first to witness its disturbing content, which wouldn't be healthy for his development.
The video depicted a murder scene.
It could deepen his animosity towards the Bates family.
Jayson understood Bethany's concerns as a mother and nodded in agreement. "You're right."
“Jayson, I appreciate your help. Thank you," Bethany said sincerely.
"Stop thanking me all the time!" Jayson chuckled, glancing at his watch. "Let's grab a bite and then head out. The kids are waiting for you."
“Okay," Bethany agreed.
After packing up, they checked out of the hotel.
Bethany wasn't particularly hungry but felt she couldn't let Jayson skip a meal while helping her, so they found a nearby breakfast spot.
Jayson kept putting the food in her bowl.
“I can't eat much," Bethany protested.
"Come on, eat up. You're growing thin," Jayson urged in a coaxing tone. "By the way, Bethany, there's something I've been meaning to discuss with you."
Bethany paused, setting down her fork. “Go ahead."
“With Rowan making his presence known, Jonathan likely knows he has a child, even if he doesn't know it's yours. And Rowan knows he has a father, too. As he grows older, there's a chance he may seek out Jonathan," Jayson pointed out.
