"This kid seems to harbor some hostility towards me. Instead of digging around, maybe it's better to let him come forward with the truth."

Nikolas gestured towards Rowan. “He claims he knows nothing. What could he possibly tell you?"

“Do you believe he truly knows nothing?"

Of course not. Nikolas suspected this child's intelligence might surpass his own. Claiming ignorance was merely an excuse.

Nikolas stayed with the father and son until they reached East Shade Bay. Then, he left reluctantly.

Of course, Rowan hadn't forgotten about the promise regarding the computer, and he handed over the number as promised to Nikolas.

Back at his office, Jonathan initially attempted to focus on business matters but found himself unable to concentrate. Pushing the keyboard aside, he scribbled the number onto a piece of paper.

This number was unfamiliar.

Nikolas also tried entering it into his phone, but it didn't match any contacts.

He first compared it with Maddie's number, and upon finding no match, he felt a wave of relief.

He hoped it wasn't Maddie. He didn't want to admit he had once held feelings for such a ruthless woman.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the office door.

Nikolas looked up to see the person he had dispatched to locate Rowan.

"Mr. Bennett, should we continue the search?"

“No, I've found the person." Nikolas paused, then handed over the number. “Investigate this number for me. Find out who's using it!"

“Yes, Mr. Bennett."

The individual departed with their new assignment.

Nikolas leaned back in his chair, staring at the number, and suddenly an idea struck him.

He called for his assistant. “Let me borrow your personal phone."

Nikolas took the phone, dialed the number, and to his surprise, it connected.

After a few rings without an answer, the call was disconnected automatically.

It was somewhat expected, so he didn't dwell on it. Soon after, a text message arrived.

"Is this your new number?"

Seeing the message, Nikolas quickly responded, "Yes. I have something to discuss with you. Please answer the phone."
