Bethany quickly ended the call and dialed Ryan's number.

It took a few rings before he answered, his voice rough and strained as though he was attempting to maintain his composure.

“Bethany, what's the matter?"

“What's happening with the company? Bates Group just informed me I should report to them. They're saying they now own Goldwald Company!"

Bethany's voice was thick with confusion and disbelief.

"Listen, Bethany, don't panic. I'm handling it and I'll make sure we get Goldwald Company back."

Bethany felt a wave of dismay. "So, it's true then. Bates Group has taken over Goldwald Company.”

"Yes. But I promise, I'm on it. I'll even go public and confront Jonathan if I have to!"

“Wait, you're planning to challenge Bates Group?" Bethany arched her eyebrows, frowning. "Ryan, you're not going to succeed."

"Do you expect me to just stand by while Jonathan tramples over me?"

Ryan said sharply, his anger now fully apparent.

Ryan guessed Nikolas had informed Jonathan about his pursuit of Bethany. Though initially unresponsive, Jonathan's sudden bid to take over Goldwald Company was clearly a severe retaliation.

It felt as if Ryan was given a pile of cash only to be tossed aside like rubbish.

He had never experienced such disgrace before.

"Ryan, you can't defeat Bates Group," Bethany said, not taking sides with Jonathan, but just stating the facts.

“Bethany, he's only doing this because of you!" Ryan said firmly.

"I know," Bethany said, unable to disregard Jonathan's increasingly obvious actions.

She worried he might have discovered the truth about the kids, considering his well-known thoroughness.

His orchestration of Goldwald Company's rapid collapse seemed out of character unless he was aware of something critical.

Bethany suspected he might be trying to lure her back to his side to secure Rowan's DNA for comparison.
