Chapter: 584
Jonathan took a pile of files on the table and handed them over to her.
"But you can't do that. My contract with Goldwald Company states I am only to work on the Westsilver project." Bethany wasn't ready to be transferred to another project.
Her involvement in the project guaranteed her staying out of trouble's way.
If she agreed to take on the new project, she would have to come here every day.
"Article 2 of Chapter 3 of the contract clearly states that Party A must obey the personnel transfer of Party B."
“That is no good reason for you to just transfer me. I've done a good job with the project."
“Did you just say a good job? Just for how long have you been on leave, if I may ask?" Jonathan's eyebrows shot up in surprise as he directed his gaze towards her.
He stared deep into her eyes, waiting for her to retort.
Bethany felt like biting on her tongue.
Arguing with him on that matter would only bring about her implicating herself. He was the president, so it wasn't a big deal for him to come up with a good reason to transfer her.
"Jonathan! You're doing this on purpose!"
Jonathan, sitting behind the desk, looked up at her with a smirk and said, “Please remember to address me as Mr. Bates."
Exasperated, Bethany retorted without thinking, "You were the one who didn't want me to call you ‘Mr. Bates' back then!"
Unfortunately for her, this response was exactly what Jonathan wanted.
"Back then, what was our relationship?" He smirked placidly. “Who are we to each other now?"
"You..."
Jonathan sat there with his legs crossed in a business-like manner, making it seem like Bethany was the unreasonable one.
"This is a professional setting. If you want to discuss personal matters, it can wait after work."
"I have nothing personal to discuss with you!" Bethany snapped, her patience wearing thin. "If the decision has been made for me, then why not have the HR department notify me of the transfer? Why call me to the CEO's office alone? People might get the wrong idea, Mr. Bates."
She emphasized the words "Mr. Bates", hoping Jonathan would hear the venom in her voice.
Jonathan, however, remained unfazed. “What kind of ‘wrong idea'?" he asked innocently, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
Him feigning ignorance nearly pushed Bethany over the edge. Hands akimbo, she decided to spell it out for him through gritted teeth.
“People might think you have a crush on me!"
"Oh, is that so?" Jonathan suddenly stood up and walked over, each stride closing the gap between him and Bethany.
