Chapter: 643
Bethany noticed Jayson's firm stance and looked to Aimee.
“Aimee, I..."
"Since what happened with Maddie, Nola's been a wreck. She cries a lot every night, and even Rowan and I can't soothe her. Bethany, don't you miss them?"
Her children...
A different emotion flickered in Bethany's eyes.
When Aimee and Jayson thought she was reconsidering, she said, “Could you hand me my phone, please?"
Jayson exchanged a look with Aimee before quietly getting her phone.
Bethany, her hand bandaged, took the phone and switched it on. It was flooded with unread messages and missed calls, mostly from Ryan.
But there was no time to deal with Ryan now. She quickly searched for Brody's number and called it.
The phone rang repeatedly, and just as it was about to go to voicemail, he picked up.
"Bethany."
“Brody, I..."
"I know what you're going to ask! But I can't tell you anything. The chairman has given direct orders!" Brody believed these two lovers should be reunited, but he couldn't risk disobeying the orders.
Bethany's voice trembled as she clutched the phone. “Has he... woken up?"
She couldn't bring herself to ask if Jonathan was dead, so she asked if he had regained consciousness.
There was a heavy sigh from the other end. “I didn't go with him. I stayed back to manage things at the company. I really don't know any specifics!"
Brody was also concerned about his boss's health, but his position prevented him from calling the chairman for updates.
"If he wakes up, he'll be looking for me. He'll be worried. I need to be there for him!"
"Bethany, look, if I hear anything, I'll let you know. But I really have to get back to work now. I'm sorry."
He ended the call abruptly, and when Bethany tried to call back, the phone was turned off.
At that moment, Brody didn't want to do anything that could jeopardize his job.
Jayson noticed Bethany was still attempting to call and reached over to stop her. “Don't make Brody's life difficult."
Suddenly, Aimee stood up and said, "Bethany, what if I bring Rowan to visit you in the hospital? Nola's too frightened to come, but Rowan could."
She hoped having the child there might distract Bethany.
