Chapter: 650
Bethany noticed a car exiting and quickly maneuvered her wheelchair to block its path.
The driver hit the brakes just in time, narrowly avoiding her.
“Who are you?"
A man emerged from the car, likely a doctor, still dressed in his lab coat. He looked at Bethany, clearly surprised.
“I need to see Jonathan. Can you help me get inside?"
"You need to see Mr. Bates?" He eyed her cautiously, then declined.
“No, this is a private facility. You need Mr. Bates’ permission to enter."
He started to walk away, but Bethany determinedly wheeled her chair in front of the car again, prepared to be run over if it came to that.
The doctor exhaled deeply and stepped out of the car once more.
"These are the rules. There's nothing I can do about it."
"Then at least tell me, how is Jonathan doing? Has he... woken up yet?"
"I'm not allowed to disclose any information!" Unsure of who she was, he was hesitant to share anything that might endanger the family.
Bethany quickly clarified, “I am Jonathan's ex-wife. He was injured while saving me! You don't have to let me in. I just want to know how he's doing!"
Ex-wife?
He was puzzled as he had never heard of Jonathan being married before.
"Miss, that can't be right. Mr. Bates has a girlfriend named Maddie, but I've never heard about any ex-wife."
Bethany understood that Jonathan's family would not recognize her.
His mother would never have introduced her to anyone.
In a prestigious family like Jonathan's, marrying an ordinary woman like her would be considered a joke.
Bethany had always known the disparity between her and Jonathan was more than just the difference between a CEO and an assistant.
"Please leave. Don't make this difficult for me; I'm just doing my job."
"Please, I just need to know if he's alive." Bethany was out of options.
She had followed him here with no plan of retreat.
Even if the Bates family attacked her today, she would not leave.
