Chapter: 652
She was determined to be by Jonathan's side.

"She can't be allowed in! Dear, remember how she initially approached our son for money? Who's to say she doesn't have ulterior motives now? Anyone can pretend to care! I'm sure she's just waiting for Jonathan to pass so she can claim his inheritance along with the children!"

“Enough!" Godfrey had heard enough, glancing at his wife. "You go inside. I need to speak with her."

"What's there to even discuss? We should just—"

“You're beginning to sound like Maddie! Always wanting someone out of the picture, targeting others. Did you forget what the doctor said? If you kill Bethany, be ready to face Jonathan's death!" Godfrey snapped.

Francine shot Bethany a poisonous look before spinning on her heel and storming back inside.

The immediate danger was defused, and Bethany continued to gaze towards the hospital, though she knew she might not see anything.

Godfrey waved the others away, leaving him alone with Bethany.

They both stood in silence for a moment before Godfrey broke it, saying, "You and Jonathan can't be together."

"I know."

She had realized that four years ago. That was why she had divorced Jonathan back then.

“Then why did you come back?"

“Coming back to Odonset wasn't my choice. Later, when Maddie kidnapped my child, I had to come!"

Godfrey nodded; he was aware of that. But that was not the purpose of their conversation. "I see you're not after wealth, but you must understand that the Bates family will never accept you."

"I get that too."

"Good, since you understand, let me be clear! The Bates family must take back the two children you have with Jonathan."

“No! They're my children!" Bethany rejected his demand.

Godfrey expected her refusal and smiled slightly. “Don't rush, Listen to my offer! As long as you agree, I can arrange for you to stay with Jonathan until he regains consciousness."

It was difficult for Bethany to agree. She pursed her lips and remained quiet, deep in thought.

Godfrey took a deep breath and addressed her. "Consider this. What kind of life will the children have with you? They will have to strive for everything. You won't be able to offer much help in their careers! Don't count on Jonathan supporting the children in the future. Neither Francine nor I will allow that."

"I never planned to ask Jonathan for help with the children." She had always intended to keep the children's existence a secret.

However, things had escalated beyond her control.

“Bethany, don't compromise the children's futures for your own sake. If they stay with the Bates family, they'll have noble status and a promising future. I assure you, even if Jonathan marries another woman and has other children, I will set aside some money and shares in the company for your two children. We can make it official with a contract."

Godfrey believed it would tarnish the Bates family's reputation if his grandchildren weren't raised by them.
