"I understand the dynamics here, much like the ones between Aimee and me. However, until I'm convinced of Nikolas' genuine intentions, I have to voice my concerns about anything developing between him and Aimee."

Bethany was direct, seeing no reason to sugarcoat her words in front of Nikolas.

What more could unfold between a man and a woman?

Nikolas and Aimee had only known each other for a few days. Bethany doubted that Nikolas could have developed any real feelings for Aimee that quickly.

"Hold on a second! Don't make it sound like I was pestering Aimee, okay? She slept with me last night!"

"What did you say?" Bethany straightened up instantly, her voice laced with confusion and rising anger.

Jonathan's heart dropped as he glanced at her, almost reflexively.

He was painfully aware of how much Aimee meant to Bethany-perhaps even more than he did. And Nikolas' actions were a direct blow to her.

Reflecting on the previous night, Nikolas felt unfairly accused.

"I swear, Aimee was the one who initiated everything! I... I just went along. I didn't say no. If you don't believe me, you can ask her yourself!"

Bethany, frustrated by his excuses, reached for her phone to call Aimee and get to the bottom of it.

Jonathan intervened, urging her to hear Nikolas out first.

"You're saying she agreed to this?" she asked, skepticism sharp in her tone.

"Absolutely!" Nikolas replied, his expression tense as he struggled to contain his frustration. "I'm not the type to force anyone. Yesterday, after we left the hospital, she wanted to stop by the supermarket, so I drove her. And on our way back to the hotel, she was the one who suggested it!"

"Ahem..."

Bethany coughed a few times, causing Nikolas to halt abruptly, leaving his sentence unfinished.

“And then? You came here today just to ask about her flight back home? Why?"

"She slept with me and didn't even leave her phone number. What was I supposed to do?" Nikolas turned to Bethany, his gaze questioning.

"Shouldn't you ask her what she wants?"

Bethany recalled how Aimee had once complimented Nikolas on his looks.

Was she attracted by his appearance?

"I haven't reached out to Aimee yet. She might still be asleep. I'll talk to her later."

"That's not possible. She's not in her room."
