Chapter: 790
Instead, he had left it sneakily on her desk, only for it to be returned, never opened.
After a brief pause, Bethany smiled wryly. “Had you done that, I would have asked the teacher to change my seat."
Back then, she hadn't been interested in romantic entanglements at all.
It wasn't that the boys hadn't shown interest. Many had. But Bethany had never given it much thought. Her priorities had been earning enough to help with her mother's medical expenses and purchasing more books.
"It wouldn't have made a difference. Even if you had asked, the teacher wouldn't have allowed it."
“Why not?"
"Because I wouldn't have let them." Their teachers wouldn't have dared defy him.
Bethany frowned slightly, unsettled by Jonathan's confident tone.
But on second thought, what he said wasn't far-fetched. After all, how could the teachers dare to offend the Bates family? Whatever Jonathan said would be followed.
“Wait... Did you ask our teacher to arrange for us to be seatmates?"
Jonathan pursed his lips. "It's a secret."
Bethany laughed softly.
Jonathan then stood up with her in his arms.
Startled, Bethany exclaimed, "Put me down! Your wounds!"
“Don't worry about it," he said with a playful grin.
When Jonathan hugged her, the muscles in his arms were clearly defined. With his golden-rimmed glasses, he had a gentle, noble air about him, yet his imposing figure gave him an intriguing edge—Like a refined gentleman with a hint of ruggedness.
“Wait a minute. I'll change my clothes."
He placed Bethany on the bed and went to change into his pajamas.
After the meeting, he had been in a suit shirt, which he quickly swapped for something more relaxed.
Bethany found herself unsure of where to look.
She wanted to keep an eye on him to ensure he didn't strain his wounds while changing, but she also felt uneasy about watching him so closely.
Fortunately, Jonathan changed quickly. He was soon buttoning up his silk pajamas. "Do you still feel pain?" he asked.
"What?"
"Does your belly still hurt?"
