"You asked Aimee to come?"
"Yes."
Jonathan's brow furrowed. "There's something important I need to tell you."
Alarmed by his tone, Bethany quickly asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nikolas is also coming to pick us up," Jonathan answered.
Jayson had dropped Aimee and the children off at the airport and hurried away.
He found it hard to watch Jonathan and Bethany together and preferred to keep his distance.
After all, there were plenty of cars to ferry everyone.
As Nikolas pulled up, he spotted Aimee, each hand gripping a child's, making her way to the terminal.
He parked in haste and hurried to catch up with them.
“Auntie, do you think Mommy will buy me candy?" Nola was single-minded in her desire for sweets.
She adored candy, and if not for the worry about her teeth, she would perpetually have a lollipop in her mouth.
"Don't worry. You'll have all the candy you want."
Nola clapped joyfully, yet Rowan was markedly more subdued.
Aimee bent down to his level. "Rowan, what's troubling you?"
"I don't want to leave Odonset."
He had just arrived and was captivated by everything here.
“You won't be gone long. Your dad is recuperating in Wesden. You'll return once he's well.”
Rowan looked up at her, uncertainty in his eyes. “Won't we be left abroad again?"
"Absolutely not! Now you and Nola have a dad, and your mommy will be with you in Wesden."
Rowan's expression softened slightly at her reassurance.
Their conversation was interrupted by a familiar voice calling from behind.
Rowan turned to find Nikolas approaching.
Aimee's eyes followed his.
