Chapter: 966
Nikolas' affectionate way of calling Henson's name and his earnest effort made Aimee feel a hint of self-doubt.
Henson's satisfaction was evident. Although he had been unsure about Nikolas at first, he was starting to appreciate the young man more with each passing day.
“Your mother is busy getting dinner ready. She didn't expect you back so soon."
“We had some free time, so we decided to come back early," Nikolas said, lugging the groceries with a grin that bordered on goofy.
Aimee was about to reply when she noticed a vaguely familiar face out of the corner of her eye.
The sight was unexpected.
It was Nikolas' ex-girlfriend.
Nikolas sensed the sudden shift in the air and followed Aimee's gaze.
He went still, his smile vanishing.
"Nikolas, how long do you plan on avoiding me?"
Fuck!
Nikolas held back from saying that swear word out loud.
After all, Henson was still around.
Nikolas could only shoot a desperate look at Aimee.
Aimee took the grocery bags from Nikolas and then said to Henson, "Dad, someone from Nikolas' work needs him right now. Let's head upstairs first."
“Oh, okay..." Henson was no fool, but since his daughter suggested it, he followed her upstairs without further question.
Nikolas waited until they were well out of hearing range before glaring angrily at Siena.
"Have you lost your mind? Can't you see I'm trying to avoid you?"
He had never encountered someone so persistently clingy. Siena had even camped out at Aimee's parents' house just to see him.
"I tried to reach you through others, but you ignored me. I had no choice but to investigate the woman with you." Siena struggled to say the word "girlfriend," her eyes filling with tears. "Nikolas, you said you wouldn't get married. You lied to me."
Annoyed, he scratched his head and then pulled out a cigarette pack from his car, tapping the pack a few times before taking one out.
"I've found someone I want to marry. What, do I need your permission?"
"When we broke up, wasn't it because I wanted marriage and you didn't? I've spent all this time convincing myself that we ended things because our values differed, that you were not the marrying kind. I told myself to move on and stop thinking about you. And now, here you are, getting ready to marry her?"
Nikolas barely paid attention to Siena's continued complaints, focusing instead on his cigarette. Once she finished, he replied indifferently, "Yes, I'm marrying her."
