Dewey glowered at Corrine, his bloodshot eyes burning with such intensity it seemed he might lunge forward and snap her neck at any moment.

Corrine adjusted the earring on her lobe. "What?" she asked, her voice dripping with indifference. "Did you honestly believe dragging me here would magically solve all your problems?"

Dewey remained silent, his gaze dark and fixed on her.

A light, mocking chuckle escaped Corrine's lips. "If not for my mother's influence, do you really think the Holland family would have survived all these years unscathed?"

Color flooded Dewey's face at her words, his chest heaving violently as he clenched his jaw. "You little monster! What sin did I commit in my past life to deserve crossing paths with you and your mother?"
