Chapter: 372
Joshua quickly started to investigate Gina's background.
He discovered that the funds for Harley's surgery had come from an anonymous benefactor.
However, he couldn't find any relevant information.
This outcome was different from what he had expected, and it left him feeling frustrated.
Noticing his seriousness, Lilliana commented coldly, “It seems you become especially meticulous when Alicia is involved. I never realized you cared so much about her."
Joshua set his phone down.
For the sake of the bigger picture, he knew he had to convince her of his patience and kindness, no matter how drained he felt. "With everything going on right now, how could I focus on anything else? I just want to navigate this difficult time with you."
Lilliana looked at him. The disappointment was evident in her eyes.
"You only appreciate my worth when you're in trouble," she sneered.
“Didn't you consider the consequences when you were sneaking around with Alicia behind my back?"
When Lilliana discovered that Alicia was staying at the Yates Mansion, fury coursed through her veins.
Even though Joshua later managed to calm her down, the situation continued to gnaw at her.
As he held her, Joshua said in a soothing tone, "Alicia came onto me. After I didn't respond, she turned to Caden. You know this, right?"
Lilliana forcefully pushed his hand away. "Do you think I'm a child?"
How could Alicia stay at the Yates Mansion for so long without Joshua's permission?
Lilliana had always recognized the complexity of Joshua's character.
She admired his intelligence and his ruthless ambition, but she could not accept it when it was directed against her.
“From now on, we should sleep in separate rooms," she announced. “You can be with anyone you want. I won't care."
Upon hearing this, Joshua felt a flicker of hope.
He wrapped his arms around her tightly. “You're pregnant. How can I let you sleep alone? I'd be worried sick. Darling, I love you, and only you."
Lilliana remained unmoved by his words. "Joshua, if you truly love me, then prove it. Do you understand?"
Joshua tried to soothe her. “Once the crisis at my company is resolved, I'll spend every moment with you, I promise."
"And?" Lilliana fixed him with a cold stare. "Don't you know what frustrates me the most?"
Joshua paused, contemplating her question.
He knew the answer all too well.
After a moment of struggle, he gently caressed her cheek. “Tell me, what do you think should happen to Alicia?"
Lilliana's expression began to soften.
She rose onto her tiptoes and whispered a few words in his ear.
His pupils dilated slightly, and he responded with a smile, “That's a simple solution. Once I achieve success, I'll leave her in your hands."
As she envisioned that scenario, Lilliana felt a surge of triumph, instantly lifting her spirits.
