Caden briefly closed his eyes.
When he got back to the apartment, Alicia had already fallen asleep from exhaustion.
However, her sleep wasn't deep; as soon as he climbed into bed, she rolled over and nestled into his arms.
"Caden?" she mumbled sleepily.
Caden whispered back, “Yes.”
In the dim light, he noticed the slight shadows under her eyes.
Lately, she had been pushing herself hard, treating her body like a machine, and working relentlessly.
“What do you need?" Caden asked her. “Are you short on cash?"
Alicia's eyes remained shut.
“I need a lot," she murmured quietly.
But she left it vague.
A silence settled over them.
Caden no longer felt like talking and settled down to sleep.
Alicia's back was against his chest, their skin touching, and she heard his stomach growl.
She barely opened her eyes.
After a moment, she asked, "Did you skip dinner?"
Caden hadn't been hungry earlier.
But her question brought his awareness to it.
It was late, and he didn't want to bother her, so he casually said, “Let's just sleep."
Alicia was ready to sleep.
However, his stomach continued to rumble.
She nudged him with her hip. “Then move away a bit. Your stomach is too loud."
Caden stayed put. Instead, he playfully slid his hand under her pajamas.
"I can't stop it. Maybe we could find another way to take your mind off it if it's bothering you."
Alicia shuddered at the idea of his energy.
She attempted to push him away, but he persisted.
Her cheeks soon flushed a deep red.
