Chapter: 469
He stared at her intently, watching as her emotions became increasingly turbulent because of him.
Unable to bear it, Alicia turned away.
He said bluntly, "You like me and you enjoy our time together. Why complicate things for yourself?"
A sting touched Alicia's heart.
"I acknowledge your skills, but to say I like you? That's going too far." She maintained her composure. "Don't overestimate yourself."
Caden sneered, "You're so stubborn."
He sensed she was not being truthful, and it irritated him.
As a result, his tone grew even more cutting. "You've already been hurt once with Joshua. Why remain so naive? Wouldn't a no-strings- attached arrangement suit us better?"
Alicia's eyelashes fluttered as she faced him.
He stated plainly that their relationship could only be a casual one.
Any deeper connection was out of the question.
Her eyes filled with tears, yet her look was resolute.
“Enjoying being intimate with you doesn't mean I like you. Understand that," Alicia clarified. "This is purely physical. If I desire intimacy, it doesn't have to be with you. There are many others who could take your place.”
Caden smirked.
His eyes sparkled with mockery, causing her pain.
With all the cards on the table and their argument reaching its peak, Alicia declared with resolve, "There's no need to discuss further. This ends today."
Caden's face stiffened momentarily.
His look was one of complete detachment.
“Are you sure about this?" he asked.
His voice carried a tone of impatience.
Alicia braced herself. "What is there to consider? You've said the same things repeatedly. What exactly do you expect me to say? Are you having second thoughts about letting me go?"
Caden sneered again.
"You know very well who's having a hard time letting go," he said, clinging to his last bit of patience. "Stop acting so dramatic. I'm tired of it."
Alicia was equally genuine. “I didn't ask you to enjoy my dramatic flair. Proceed as you see fit concerning our agreement."
Aware that Caden wouldn't hold onto her, she added casually, “If you think our partnership has been at a loss to you, let me know. I'LL address it."
With those words, she picked up her bag, opened the door, and walked out.
She didn't cause a fuss, but after she left, the office fell into an unsettling silence.
It felt almost lifeless.
Caden felt his anger surging uncontrollably.
He was close to breaking point.
