Chapter: 1613
Group had encountered a major problem recently. Thirty percent of its ongoing projects had been halted. Some of those projects were bombarded with worker strikes. Some faced workplace accident reports, while some had to deal with suppliers backing out.
Although thirty percent wasn't alarming, it should still be taken seriously. If Jimenez Group failed to handle the problems well, it would ruin their annual work plan this year and even the next five years.
"A little, but everything's been settled for now," Roger said, his voice sounding slightly hoarse from exhaustion.
Rachel gazed into his tired eyes and asked, "Do you need my help?"
Roger shook his head to say he was fine.
“If you're not in a hurry, you can stay and have dinner with us.
Lila is a good cook," Rachel said.
Lila didn't understand what they were talking about, but when she heard Rachel ask Roger to stay, she echoed, “Please stay and have some of my cooking."
"I would love to, but I came here to talk with Rachel. I have to go to the company afterward for a meeting, so I can't stay Longer,"
Roger declined politely.
Lila looked at Rachel.
Rachel didn't insist on making Roger stay and turned to Lila with a smile.
"I'd like to have beef, Lila. Do we have some in the fridge?"
"We do, but not much. I'll go and buy some more right now." As a house helper for many years, Lila had learned how to read other people's cues. She politely excused herself, leaving the two alone in the living room.
Rachel poured a cup of coffee for herself. As it was still smoking hot, she didn't take a sip.
"Let's get engaged tomorrow, Rachel," Roger suddenly said, breaking the silence.
Rachel looked up at him in confusion. She had expected Roger to mention the engagement but not in this way.
Her hold on the cup tightened.
“Aren't you being rash? We planned to
Roger suddenly broke into laughter, cutting her off. He patted her head twice and said, “I'm just kidding. You look so nervous."
Looking at his smiling face, Rachel loosened her hold on the cup.
“Roger—"
“Rachel, we should call off the engagement," Roger said, cutting her off again. Withdrawing his hand from her head, he looked into her eyes.
"I'm serious this time."
The atmosphere grew tense, and the living room abruptly fell silent.
