Chapter: 1699
A loud thud filled the room.

Alberto didn't anticipate the fall. As a result, he fell with her onto the floor and hit his head.

The banging sounded painful.

Dumbfounded and shocked, Rachel found herself sprawled on top of Alberto.

Her heart raced.

But the strong, steady heartbeat in her ears wasn't hers, but Alberto's. She could hear it so clearly as the side of her face was pressed on his chest.

Realizing their position, Rachel froze. Instead of the cold, hard floor, she felt the warm body under her. Alberto had one arm around her waist, steadying her. She checked herself for pain but felt nothing despite the loud fall.

In that brief moment, Alberto reached down to cover her knees with his hand, which prevented her from sustaining any injury.

Rachel felt something tugged at her heart at that moment.

"Uh, Mr. Gibson..." she called out.

However, Alberto's hand remained on her waist, showing no intention of releasing her.

Rachel bit her lower lip. She looked up and was about to call him out again when she found him still with his eyes closed, showing no reaction.

Her heart skipped a beat in panic. The fall was hard and loud. It must have hurt him so badly.

Did Alberto hit his head and pass out?

With worry etched on her face, Rachel got off him and shook his shoulder to wake him up.

"Mr. Gibson? Are you okay? Can you hear me?

Please wake up."

Rachel knew Alberto's health wasn't in its best state, but she never expected him to be so weak that he would lose consciousness.

It was already past midnight, and there was no one else to call for help.

Before panic could immobilize her, Rachel reached for her phone to call an ambulance. Just then, a strong hand gripped her wrist, stopping her.

"I'm fine," Alberto murmured, his forehead knitting as he opened his eyes.

The fall made him so dizzy that he couldn't open his eyes right away.

Rachel let out a sigh of relief.

“Are you sure?"
