Chapter: 1729
The team was now outside the building.
As they walked, Shayla followed behind Rachel and Rowell. She looked up at the starry night sky and said in a low voice, "It's so late.
I'm so hungry now."
Barnett looked at her and asked with a smile, "Tell me, what do you feel like eating. It's my treat."
Shayla's brows furrowed, and she looked troubled.
"I would really love to, but I've been on a strict diet recently. I was supposed to have cereal at five o'clock, but it's almost eight now. I can no longer eat. Otherwise, all my efforts will be in vain because I'll definitely gain weight."
"Can't today be an exemption? It's too good a day to worry about dieting, right?" Barnett persuaded Shayla.
“Besides, you are already slim. There's no need for you to go on a diet. I don't think you will gain much weight if you enjoy a good meal."
Finally, Shayla was moved by Barnett's words. She turned to Klein, who had been silent since they came out of the building, and asked softly, "Klein, why don't you join us? We can go back together after dinner."
Klein's eyes darkened, and his expression remained sour. He turned a deaf to Shayla as if he didn't hear anything.
Barnett could no longer contain himself. He snorted coldly.
"Why do you have to pretend to be so aloof?"
“Barnett... Shayla called out softly, glancing at Klein subconsciously. She quickly tugged at Barnett's sleeve, hinting at him not to provoke Klein anymore.
She didn't want the two men to end up in a fight.
"Shayla, I know you like Klein. But you can't be too biased, right?
Remember that if it weren't for Miss Bennet today, our project might have been in trouble. Klein was too confident to say he could handle everything on his own. He didn't even inform Miss Bennet when he came to the meeting. But what happened, then? When there was a real problem, he couldn't say a word." Barnett shook off Shayla's hand.
Shayla's face flushed in embarrassment.
"Barnett, stop talking nonsense."
Barnett huffed disdainfully and turned away from them. Shayla knew very well whether or not he was talking nonsense.
“Klein, Barnett is just..." Shayla's brows furrowed. She was so anxious that she wanted to explain.
"You go ahead and eat. I have other things to attend to." After saying that, Klein turned around and left them.
As Shayla watched Klein walking away resolutely, tears welled up in her eyes.
When Barnett saw this, he realized he had said something wrong. He was so nervous that he stammered, “Shayla, I'm...I'm sorry. I...1 didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I just can't stand Klein's arrogance anymore. I only said those things to take him down a peg, not to hurt you."
Shayla lowered her head.
