Chapter: 1842
“How's your studies?" Instead of answering, Alberto changed the subject.
Allen's head throbbed at the question.
"You're asking me that too? Grandpa and Dad are already driving me crazy about my studies. But no matter how hard I try, data reports and such are all Greek to me!" As expected, Alberto succeeded at detracting him from the project leakage issue.
"That's why you need to study hard, so you can understand them,”
Alberto said.
Allen scoffed. "Why don't you just come back? Your project has been compromised, anyway. It's not much of a loss either. If you want to destroy Sullivan Group, why not purchase it? You know we have the means to help you with that."
“I'll go home when you make progress in your studies."
With a long sigh, Allen grumbled, “Oh, come on!"
"You're not a kid anymore, Allen." Alberto's expression turned serious. "Dad isn't getting any younger either. You should learn everything about the business as early as now. Otherwise, you might have to take over the company unprepared."
“But I'm not the only son in the family," Allen contested. "We have you."
"You are the successor, Allen."
“But I don't want that. ALL of you expect me to take over the family, but none of you ever asked me whether I want it. You know that between us, you're the one who's more capable and qualified."
Leaning against the edge of the table, Alberto fell silent.
Suddenly, a man's voice came over from the other end of the line, urging Allen to do something. Impatiently, Allen stood up from the chair and responded, “Alright, alright. I'll be there in a minute!"
Then, he returned to the phone and regretfully informed Alberto, "I have to go to a meeting with Grandpa. You better come home quickly and save your lovely brother."
“Just go," Alberto said and was about to hang up the phone.
But Allen didn't end the call yet, asking, "You will come home, right? You won't disappear again after destroying Sullivan Group, will you?"
Alberto was momentarily taken aback, not knowing what to respond.
Worried, Allen asked again, "You'll always be my brother, right?
You'll stay with us?"
Alberto finally managed to respond, "Of course."
"Great!" Allen breathed a sigh of relief. "I've always been worried you'll leave me alone once you've succeeded with your revenge plan.
You saved my life, Alberto, and I owe my second life to you. You can't just leave me alone, okay? You have to save me for the second, third, fourth-"
Before Alberto could interrupt his brother, he heard a familiar voice from the other end of the line.
