Carson looked up again at the bright window, musing aloud, “Does she get attached to you, given your frequent travels and rare visits home?"
Lighting Carson's cigarette, Baker responded, “She does. Her mom's health isn't great, so she's often home. My daughter always clings to me, wanting to go out and play whenever I manage to visit. Daughters often form strong bonds with their fathers."
Carson felt a growing sense of melancholy.
"Mr. Scott, aren't you going up to see her?" Baker knew this wasn't Carson's first time here, observing his focused gaze on the upper floor.
