"Taxi, I guess," Rachel mumbled.

“Where are you staying?" Alberto asked. "Maybe we're headed in the same direction. I could give you a ride."

Alberto's mixed signals were confusing. He maintained a cool distance, yet drew closer whenever he could. It felt like he was both acknowledging and denying her.

The realization struck her-he was simply keeping a promise made during the fire.

Logically, she should be grateful.
