Averie hesitated for a second, then followed him.

She got into the back seat, while he sat in the driver's seat. He buckled up, hit the gas, and headed toward the school gate.

As the scenery flew by, Averie felt a sense of loss. She kept staring out the window until the school gate was out of sight. Then she asked, "So, where are we going?"

“To the place where you'll be staying for a while," he replied.

She wanted to ask more questions but he seemed done talking. So she bit her lip, staying silent as they drove toward who-knows-where.
