Chapter: 144
Before Ashley could finish, Alan exited the room.

He knew better. Kaitlin’s anger wasn't groundless.

Something Ashley had said must have provoked her.

"Doctor, how severe is Ashley's injury?"

The doctor paused before looking up at Alan. "Are you her family?"

“No, I'm her boss. She was injured in an accident, and I need to understand the extent of her injuries to arrange for her compensation,”

Alan replied.

Alan's eyes narrowed, radiating a commanding presence. "So, understand that what you're about to say has serious legal implications."

The doctor paused, clearly uneasy, before replying, “Miss Willis, it doesn't necessitate a cast. She was injury... well, actually adamant about wearing one, claiming it was painful."

Alan's face grew stern as he pressed for confirmation. "So, she's exaggerating the severity of her injury?"

The doctor's silence spoke volumes.

Rising from his seat, Alan headed back to the hospital room.

Ashley lay in bed, shifting into a flirtatious demeanor as soon as she spotted him. “Alan, my leg is killing me. This cast is such a hassle. It looks like I'll be here for a bit. Will you visit me often?"

Her eyes shimmered with a hopeful allure that few could withstand.

However, Alan's gaze was icy, his voice tinged with irritation. “What were you telling Kaitlin earlier?"

Caught off guard, Ashley clung to her fabricated story. "I didn't say much... just expressed my concern for her."

Alan's eyebrows knitted together as he eyed her cast-covered leg. “Is your injury truly that severe?"

"Alan, why would you doubt me? I never wanted to get injured."

Ashley struggled to appear composed, yet internally, she was frantic.

Knowing Alan as she did, she could tell his anger was genuine.

“Ashley, you lured me here on purpose, didn't you? I've just spoken with the doctor. Your injury isn't serious, and you don't actually need a cast." Alan's gaze pierced Ashley's, and he caught a fleeting glimpse of guilt in her eyes.

“Alan, are you questioning me?" Ashley quickly regained her composure, tears welling up in her eyes.

The Alan she knew had never doubted her or addressed her so harshly.

"Yes, I needed to see you. I needed you to care. Is that so wrong? Alan, you should understand the reason for that accident years ago. I lost my memory and endured a hard life. But when I finally returned, you were with another woman."
