Chapter: 145
Ashley's body shook, her cheeks damp with tears, adding to her fragile appearance.

"Alan, have you ever thought about my feelings? My heart is shattering."

Alan dropped his gaze, his rising anger fading. "I'm sorry. The accident back then was unforeseen. I looked for you tirelessly..."

Ashley, overcome by emotion, cut him off. "I get it, I really do. We can't dwell on the past forever. You've found someone new and have a baby on the way. I'm genuinely happy for you, Alan. All I wanted was a bit of your attention. Is that too much to ask Ashley's eyes widened, beseeching, like a child craving affection."

If Kaitlin were here, she would probably commend Ashley's act.

Seeing Ashley like this, Alan couldn't bring himself to respond harshly.

"We should keep our distance moving forward. I don't want to unsettle Kaitlin, and you need to end these theatrics." Alan's expression hardened as he cautioned her.

Despite Ashley's tearful plea, he didn't linger.

After Alan had departed, Ashley clenched her jaw and requested the doctor remove her cast so she could leave the hospital as soon as possible.

Elsewhere, Kaitlin left the hospital by taxi, but her journey nearly ended in disaster when her cab was involved in a collision.

The driver, flustered and apologetic, turned to her and said, “I'm sorry, miss. We were rear-ended. It's best if you find another ride. This one's on me."

Without waiting for her reply, he unfastened his seatbelt and stepped out to negotiate with the other driver.

Shaken by the incident, Kaitlin paused to compose herself before she too exited the taxi.

The mishap had caused a traffic snarl, and passing taxis were now bypassing them, not wanting to get caught in the congestion.

She waited on the curb, her hope dwindling, when suddenly a familiar vehicle stopped beside her.

Quintin emerged, surveyed the scene, and quickly surmised her plight.

“Were you in that taxi? Are you alright?"

His concern was palpable as he reached out to steady her by the waist.

Feeling slightly awkward yet grateful for the support, as her legs had begun to weaken from the heat, Kaitlin didn't pull away.

"Have you been here long? Come on, I'll drive you home," Quintin offered.

Relieved, Kaitlin sighed and nodded, thankful for the timely rescue.

Curious, she asked, “What brings you here?"

“I was meeting a client nearby and saw the accident from afar. Had I not seen you, I would've chosen a different route," he explained, helping her into the car before they drove off.

Nearby, a man snapped pictures of them, capturing their close moment.
