Chapter: 155
Ashley seemed to have assumed the role of the lady of the house.
The butler's brow creased with discomfort.
Kaitlin's eyes narrowed at the dress Ashley wore as she recognized it as from the latest fashion season.
“Sorry, Kaitlin, I arrived in such a rush last night and didn't have time to bring extra clothes. I just picked something from the closet,"
Ashley said, her smirk laden with spite. "You're so generous. Surely you don't mind, right?"
Kaitlin's heart raced, her anger mounting.
She was aghast that Alan had dared to bring this woman into his place while she seethed outside!
"Kaitlin, are you okay? You seem off," Ashley continued, her voice dripping with faux concern and a spark of mischief in her eyes.
The butler stepped forward, ready to assist. "Mrs. Hewitt, are you feeling alright?"
The undercurrents of Ashley's taunts were obvious to all.
Kaitlin scoffed, determined not to let Ashley see her vulnerability.
“It's just a dress. I've abandoned Alan. If you're so keen to marry him, why put on this act?"
Ashley's smile froze, her discomfort palpable.
"Ashley, your pretense of innocence disgusts me every time I see it!"
Kaitlin sneered, her patience wearing thin. She turned her back and strode away.
The butler, flustered, followed quickly, calling out to her in his pursuit.
The other servants, witnesses to the unfolding drama, averted their gaze, feigning ignorance.
Ashley's forced smile disappeared, her frustration evident as she marched back into the room, the click of her high heels echoing her mood.
Things had definitely not gone according to her plan. She hadn't anticipated Kaitlin's resilience. Not only had Kaitlin not fallen ill as expected, but she also arrived to taunt her.
“Mrs. Hewitt, please understand, it's all a misunderstanding. Mr. Hewitt did bring her back last night, but she stayed in the guest room."
Kaitlin dismissed him with a wave of her hand. “I don't want to hear it. I'm not interested in any explanations. Make sure Alan doesn't find out I was here."
Ignoring the butler's pleas, Kaitlin climbed into a taxi and drove off.
The butler, worried, decided it was crucial to inform Alan without delay.
Meanwhile, Alan was unreachable, tied up in a meeting.
