Chapter: 171
Once outside, she immediately called Lilliana.
She remembered Lilliana had a past fling with Miguel. Before deciding to work with Miguel, she needed a clearer picture of his tactics.
Thirty minutes later, the sisters reunited in Ashley's spacious apartment.
Dylan had secured this place as well; it was double the size of her last one and nestled in a respectable neighborhood.
The neighborhood was upscale, guarded by stringent security measures that required a keycard for entry unless one was a resident-a precaution Alan had insisted on to shield Ashley from her supposedly dangerous, though nonexistent, ex-husband.
"Why have you moved here?" Lilliana's face fell into a pout; she assumed Ashley had managed to sneak into Alan's good graces.
"Enough of that bullshit," Ashley cut in sharply. “Miguel has returned. Have you heard from him?"
At the mention of Miguel, Lilliana blanched, her voice quivering as she spoke. "“H-he... he's back?"
Ashley's eyebrows knitted in concern. "Why does he frighten you so much?"
"I'm terrified of him! If he threatens to kill someone, they don't live to see another day!"
Ashley tapped the table firmly. “Lilliana, calm down and tell me everything that's happened between you and Miguel."
Lilliana shook her head, her reluctance written all over her face.
“Why are you bringing this up now?"
“Miguel is back, and I'm considering working with him," Ashley stated flatly.
Lilliana gasped, the seriousness in Ashley's tone confirming that this was no jest. "Why? Haven't you made up with Alan?"
Ashley glanced at her sister, a hint of impatience in her gesture.
"It's all because of Kaitlin. She's pregnant with Alan's child, and it's putting me at a constant disadvantage. Now, even the people at the office think they can push me around. I won't stand for it!"
She clenched her teeth, anger twisting her features.
From Lilliana, Ashley had pieced together much about Miguel, including his schemes against Alan and how he had even manipulated Lilliana into faking a pregnancy.
The plan had backfired, forcing him to flee the country.
Why he could return now was beyond Lilliana.
"Miguel is a lunatic. Getting involved with him means you'll never be free of him!" Lilliana warned.
Ashley scoffed, giving her sister a dismissive look, "You just don't see the bigger picture. Alan has nearly crushed Miguel's power. He's barely hanging on. I can leverage whatever influence he has left to take my revenge."
Seeing the determination in Ashley's eyes, Lilliana ceased her attempts to dissuade her.
