Chapter: 206
Before Phoebe had a chance to reply, Kaitlin disconnected the call.
She then forwarded the account details Owen had given her to Phoebe.
Waving her phone in Owen's direction, she asked, “Feeling reassured now? I'll confirm the funds are clean, and once you release me, there's even more in it for you."
Owen gave a smug smile, seemingly pleased. "You're clever, Kaitlin, but that sum isn't going to cut it for me."
Kaitlin's expression grew stern. "Are you going back on your word?"
"Think of this as your opportunity to get more. Don't worry. Once I secure the money and leave the country, I'll set you free-not a moment sooner."
Owen pocketed the knife, clearly not planning to release her yet.
As he opened the car door, Kaitlin seized her chance and leapt out.
She knew she couldn't just sit there, waiting for doom. Owen was unpredictable and could alter his plans any second.
Owen, caught off guard by her sudden burst of energy, sprinted after her.
He was fast, and Kaitlin had only made it a couple of hundred yards before he caught up.
"You think you can escape?. If you don't cooperate, don't fault me for my harshness."
With that, he struck her, sending a sharp pain through her head.
They were alone in the outskirts, with no one around.
Resolute, Kaitlin bit down hard on Owen's arm.
He let out a yell and shoved her away.
Taking advantage of the moment, Kaitlin dashed towards a narrow pathway.
It was pitch-black, and if she could find a good hiding spot, she might survive until help arrived.
Kaitlin's expectations were too high, and Owen caught up in no time.
He swiftly restrained her by twisting her arms behind her back, ensuring she couldn't retaliate.
It took all his strength to pull her back to the car, and by then, Kaitlin was gasping for breath, completely drained.
"You bitch! You almost had me fooled with that cunning tongue of yours!" Owen spat as he slammed the car's back door. Just as he was about to enter the driver's side, blinding headlights and the wail of a siren filled the air behind him.
Shielding his eyes, Owen turned as a car pulled up abruptly in front of him. Several men in black suits stepped out, quickly encircling him.
"Who the hell are you? Back off!" Owen tried to warn them off, but the bodyguards were already on him.
