Chapter: 225
The injured person had to be someone else.
Seeing Alan so concerned softened Kaitlin.
“Don't worry, I'm fine. It was Mr. Murphy who was hurt. We were checking out the branch when someone unexpectedly dropped something from above. Mr. Murphy shielded me and took the hit."
When he heard Kaitlin's account, the relief on Alan's face gave way to a frown. "He shielded you?" he asked.
Kaitlin nodded, glancing towards the emergency room door. "The injury looked severe. I'm not sure how he is now."
Alan felt a twinge of jealousy at her obvious worry. "You seem really concerned about him."
Kaitlin looked puzzled at his tone. She and Shawn were just business partners-why the jealousy? Before she could reply, the emergency room door swung open.
Shawn emerged looking better than expected, his arm bandaged, not as gravely hurt as Kaitlin had feared.
As he noticed Alan, a brief shadow flickered across Shawn's face before he resumed his usual friendly self.
"Mr. Murphy, are you okay? Thank you so much for today," Kaitlin said.
Shawn shook his head. "Kaitlin, today was just a freak accident. No thanks needed."
“But you still stepped in to shield me from harm. How's the injury? Did the doctor say if it will impact your work?"
Kaitlin was deeply concerned about their collaboration. She feared that if Shawn chose to sever ties over this incident, it would be a significant blow.
However, her fears were quickly dispelled.
“Kaitlin, I've instructed my assistant to look into today's accident thoroughly. We were conducting an inspection at my branch, so any issues that emerged fall under my team's responsibility," Shawn explained, then paused before reassuring her. "It's not your fault, so please, don't blame yourself."
Kaitlin was relieved by his words, and her gratitude deepened.
Meanwhile, Alan observed their interaction with a growing sense of exclusion and coughed to draw their attention.
Shawn's attention shifted to Alan, as if he had just noticed him.
"And who might this be, Kaitlin?" he inquired.
With a smile, Kaitlin introduced him. "Mr. Murphy, meet Mr. Hewitt from the Hewitt Group. Perhaps you've heard of him?"
Shawn's response carried weight. “Ah, Mr. Hewitt, your reputation precedes you."
Alan shot him a cold look.
If Shawn really knew him, why didn't he recognize him immediately?
He was likely feigning ignorance or putting on a facade.
