“Where are you?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of anxiety.
“I'm heading home. What's the matter?" Kaitlyn responded.
"Don't go home. I'm sending someone to pick you up," Alan instructed firmly.
Kaitlin's brow furrowed with concern. “What's happened?" she pressed.
"Qwen has escaped. I'm worried he might come after you," Alan explained with urgency. "You're not safe right now, and I can't let anything happen to you. Have the driver pull over and wait. I'm on my way to get you."
Kaitlin felt a surge of anxiety.
The thought of Owen, a known fugitive, being loose was alarming.
Alan's worry seemed completely justified.
She promptly instructed the driver to stop and sent her location to Alan.
Within ten minutes, Alan's car pulled up beside them.
“What exactly happened?" Kaitlin asked as she settled into Alan's car.
"He was under guard in a villa's basement in the suburbs. I've been swamped at work and haven't been following up. I only received the news last night," Alan explained.
“Did he escape on his own?" Kaitlin asked, her expression tense.
She could sense the situation was more complicated than it seemed.
“It's unlikely. The guards are competent. They wouldn't have let him slip away easily. Someone must have helped him escape," Alan speculated, his face set in a grim Line.
After a tense silence, he continued, “I've already deployed a team to investigate. You'll stay at my place for the next few days."
Given the serious threat, Kaitlin nodded, ready to follow Alan's plan without objection.
With her professional obligations handled, she could afford to lay low at Alan's for a while.
Meanwhile, as Alan's team scoured for Owen, he was already making his next move.
Owen ambushed Ashley, quickly covering her mouth to muffle her screams, and dragged her into an alley.
The cold blade grazed Ashley's cheek, sending a shiver of terror through her. Paralyzed with fear, she remained motionless.
Owen's mocking laughter pierced the silence. “Ashley, it's been a while," he hissed. “I bet you didn't think you'd see this day when you left me for dead, did you?"
