Chapter: 318
Denton ignored her, increasing her sense of desperation.
Kaitlin was still awaiting her response, which made her embarrassment grow.
"I hardly know you. You're pregnant yet you're involved with several men," Marcia retorted with a scornful laugh, trying to salvage some dignity.
Alan glared at her, his displeasure evident. “What did you just say?" he demanded coldly.
Marcia shuddered under his gaze, losing her nerve to continue.
"Get the hell out of here! What a disgrace!" Denton bellowed, ending the confrontation.
Unwilling to resign herself to her fate, Marcia grabbed her assistant's arm and they drew closer to Denton.
"Mr. Gilbert, it was really her. I'm innocent. Why won't you trust me?" Marcia pleaded urgently.
She then turned sharply to her assistant. "You! Tell me now! Why did you set me up?" she demanded in a harsh tone.
The assistant's arm bore the red marks of Marcia's tight grip. It was clear that Marcia often mistreated her.
The assistant, who was used to such treatment, couldn't take anymore.
"Let me go!" she cried out.
With a mixture of frustration and resignation, she continued, “Marcia, when will you stop tormenting me? You've always manipulated me into these situations, haven't you?"
Tears welled in the assistant's eyes as she turned to the others in the room. "Mr. Gilbert, Ms. Gilbert, wouldn't you like to know why Marcia did this?"
After a dramatic pause, she revealed, “Because she's jealous. She's always been jealous of the company's designers, using dirty tricks to discredit them. She knew I was too scared to speak up, so she coerced me into these schemes repeatedly."
Marcia's face contorted with rage at her assistant's words.
"You liar! You're talking nonsense!" Marcia exclaimed in disbelief, raising her hand to deliver a slap.
Denton intervened immediately. “What are you doing? If you're innocent, let her speak," he said.
Hearing Denton's rebuke, Marcia reluctantly lowered her hand.
The assistant took a moment to compose herself. "Mr. Gilbert, the designers who started with Marcia were wrongly accused of plagiarism. She forced me to do it," she confessed.
With a weary sigh, she admitted, "I know I'm no saint, but I was left with no choice. I needed the money."
As she turned to Kaitlin, the assistant's expression was filled with remorse. "Ms. Gilbert, I'm truly sorry for everything," she said helplessly.
She then removed her work badge, placing it solemnly on the table.
“Mr. Gilbert, I don't deserve to continue working for you. I'm sorry for the harm I've caused. I'm willing to resign," she said firmly.
