Chapter: 33
The notification showed a sudden five million dollar increase in her bank account.
Shocked, Alan wasted no time in messaging Dylan to investigate Kaitlin's recent activities.
A knock interrupted his thoughts. Opening the door, Alan was met by a servant holding a bowl of herbal-Looking soup.
“Mr. Hewitt, this evening snack was specially prepared by your grandmother for Mrs. Hewitt," the servant said.
With a hint of hesitation, Alan stepped aside. "Just bring it in."
The servant entered, noting Kaitlin's absence, she added, "Your grandmother insists that Mrs. Hewitt drink this before bedtime."
"What the hell is this?"
Alan grimaced at the strong, unpleasant odor filling the room.
"It can help Mrs. Hewitt get pregnant. They say it's quite effective.”
The servant offered a brief explanation, then made no move to linger.
The sound of the shower ceased. Kaitlin, drying her hair, emerged in a night robe.
She immediately noticed the soup on the table, her expression one of mild disgust.
"Have you had this before?" Alan asked.
"Yes. We've been married for three years. Beth prescribed this to hasten our having children," she replied.
Alan was taken aback. How had this escaped his notice?
"Stop acting as if you don't know. Haven't I endured enough during our marriage over the years? You should take this. After all, our lack of children is on you," Kaitlin scoffed, grabbed her phone, and headed for the door.
“Where are you going?" Alan asked.
“I'm going to sleep in the study."
Indifferent to whether Beth would discover that they didn't share a room, Kaitlin was furious upon seeing the soup.
She stormed out. Left alone, Alan eyed the soup on the table and impulsively took a sip.
His face twisted in disgust.
The concoction was revolting. He realized then just how much Kaitlin had been suffering.
Throughout their three-year marriage, he seldom shared her bed, yet she had been coerced by his grandmother into drinking such vile mixtures. Life had been harsh on her.
The next morning, Kaitlin rose early. After dressing, she joined Beth in the dining room for breakfast.
