Chapter: 34
Resolved to maintain appearances, she plastered on a smile.

Over breakfast, the conversation inevitably turned to the topic of children, increasing Kaitlin's discomfort.

Just when she felt she could bear no more, Alan arrived.

Without a word, Kaitlin stood, her patience exhausted. "Beth, Alan has to leave for work. We'll visit again when he's free."

As she spoke, she rested her eyes on him. It was unusual for Alan to be so cooperative.

“Grandma, it's time for us to go," he said.

“Alright, just remember to drive carefully. And drop by for dinner whenever you can," Beth responded.

Kaitlin made her exit from the Hewitt family's residence. Once in the car, she addressed Alan, “When are you planning to tell your grandma about our divorce? Next time, don't bring me into this."

Alan was caught off guard, his frustration evident as he clenched his jaw.

“Why? Have you found someone new? Are you that eager to cut ties with me?"

"This isn't about you. After divorce, you and I are nothing. I only came for your grandma's sake, but it won't happen again. Just take me home," Kaitlin replied in an icy tone.

She needed to change her clothes at home before heading to the studio.

The car rode on in heavy silence before Alan instructed the driver to take a different route.

Kaitlin hadn't slept well in the study last night. The sofa was too soft, leaving her with a sore back. She massaged her neck, but it brought no relief.

The phone rang with a number Kaitlin didn't recognize.

"I'm back. Surprise."

The sparkle in Kaitlin's eyes revealed her immediate recognition of the sender.

It had been effortless for him to track down her number.

She texted, "I'll treat you to dinner some other day. Okay?"

The person was quick to respond. "Not some other day-tonight. I just landed and am resting at the hotel."

After a moment's thought, Kaitlin texted back, "OK." Then she began to search online for a dinner venue.

She affectionately nicknamed him Knowitall for his vast knowledge.

They had been communicating through a special app and had never met in person.

Alan noticed Kaitlin's absorbed expression as she interacted with her phone.
